ABERRATION
COMBAT
Aberration fights are turn-based combat encounters featuring a few unique mechanics

-
Aberration's Natural Armor
-
Armor of Corruption: The aberration possesses an unnatural armor of corruption, making it resistant to attacks. It can only be struck by rolling a 10-19 on the attack roll. A successful roll in this range results in the deduction of one heart from the Aberration's overall health. Rolling a natural 20 inflicts a more severe blow, causing two hearts to be subtracted.

-
Player Counter-Attack Mechanics
-
Counter-Attack Opportunity: Players have the opportunity to counter an aberration's attack. However, aberrations target all players within range, engaging everyone participating in the battle. Following an attack, everyone must roll to determine whether the attack hits or misses. A higher roll indicates a successful evasion, causing the attack to miss its target. Then the post order continues.
-
Damage Resolution: Damage between groups or due to magical items/abilities do not stack when attacking. Each player takes individual damage based on the Aberration's attack roll if the attack isn't countered by the player.
-
Temporary Effect Duration: The effects that an aberration may have on someone will only be effective on all parties who took damage until the Aberration's next roll. The heart (health level) will still be taken from the attack, but the effects other than physical injuries sustained by the attack will not be present after the aberration's next roll.
-
-
Group Dynamics
-
Large Group Importance: In large groups, adhering to the post order is crucial. Not all members may have the chance to attack the aberration, depending on the group size in the battle.
-
Post Order Initiation: The post order will be determined through a players' initiation round. The aberration/Staff member must tell those attending the post order to roll for initiation. An initiation round is when all participants roll a D20. Highest rolls go first all the way down to the lowest roll who would go last. If there is a tie, the person who rolled first in local chat will go before the one they tied with. For post order, utilizing a floating script on a box makes it visible to all players, ensuring that the DM doesn't have to repeatedly announce the post order. Players can easily check the box to see the order, and if someone joins later, they can be added to the list.

-
Attack Roll Mechanics
-
Rolling for Attack: Players must roll before initiating an attack. This ensures that the poster can specify whether they missed or hit in their post.
-
Miss Mechanic: A roll below 10 indicates a miss. NPCs or aberrations can then describe how the attack did not affect them. Alternatively, players can describe their attempt to hit without the intended effect.

-
Core Rings Health System.
-
Different Health Tiers: The aberration's health is divided into tiers based on core rings. Aberration (Staff member) should add the heart level in their titler.
-
Core Rings 1-5: Health = 6 hearts
-
Core Rings 6-9: Health = 12 hearts
-
Core Ring 10: Health = 18 hearts
The type of Aberration that will appear will be determined by staff before they manifest in the world. Lower core aberrations would be more common than others. To ensure fairness, a wheel will be used by the staff before roleplaying as an aberration to determine the level of core they possess. Wheel: https://wheelofnames.com/898-3f9 (70-30 chance)

Player Health and Level System
-
Set Health Bar: Players begin battle with a set health bar of 3 hearts, representing the number of attacks they can endure before requiring strategic consideration. Depleting all hearts renders a player unable to continue in the battle. At that point, the player must decide among fleeing, falling unconscious, or confronting potential death. If all players exhaust their health bars, the battle concludes. Conversely, if one side achieves this feat for the Aberration, the battle also ends.
-
Health Upgrade Mechanism: Players can enhance their health by bringing items or equipment into battle. These upgrades are reflected in the player's health bar. For example:
-
Common Health: 3 hearts (base level)
-
Enhanced Health Upgrade: 4 hearts
-
Maximum Health Upgrade: 5 hearts
-
Players can only utilize items that have been submitted through the 'MAGIC ITEMS CREATION' channel on Discord to bolster their health during battles with aberrations. This means that in the absence of an item from the listing, players' health will be capped at 3 hearts during the battle. This restriction also applies to potions, with each player limited to using no more than one potion . To ensure fairness and prevent metagaming, players must provide a link to the item listed in Discord when using it in-game, linking the Dungeon Master (DM) involved.
-
Health Display: Each player's health should be displayed on their role-play titler before entering battle. The level indicates the player's experience and capabilities in combat.
-
Player Responsibility: It is the players' responsibility to manage their health and track the damage sustained in battles. This trust is placed in the community to ensure fair play and honesty in health and damage tracking. Staff members may be occupied with overseeing the overall battle, making it essential for players to independently handle their health-related information.
-
-
Modified Attack Frequency
-
Aberration Attack Timing: Aberrations attack after every 5th post, maintaining a regular and predictable rhythm in the battle. This creates suspense and strategic anticipation for players. If the group is smaller then 5 players, the aberration will go at the end of the post order.

Combat Range
There will be a Combat Range marked by a red circle on the ground. Players must stay inside this circle when you're attacking. You can move around freely within it. Only those inside the circle can be attacked, and those outside are safe from attacks. However, when outside, they also cannot attack the aberration. If someone attacks from outside the Combat Range, their attack will miss automatically. When a player is inside the Combat Range, you can either move outside of the range or attack, but you can't do both at the same time.
